Malawi Arrival

I left New Zealand on Tuesday and have now arrived in Malawi, via Hong Kong and Johannesburg.

Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest,Tanzania to the northeast and Mozambique on the east, south and west. Lake Malawi takes up about a third of Malawi area. Malawi is among the world’s least-developed countries and has a low life expectancy along with high infant mortality. There is a high prevalence of HIV/Aids, which is a drain on the labour force and government expenditures.

Presently I am at a feeding centre for 170 children aged 3-6yrs old - all orphans, but living in other family houses in surrounding villages. The children arrive at 9am and stay until 12pm. There are lessons, play and teaching while the porridge is being prepared. There are no other medical staff here.
