Boat Too Full

Added to site: Mar 21
Unfortunately the boat to Tanah Masa today was full, so Fiona and I could not travel there. Will try again to go there tomorrow.

Another steady day with a 45yr old woman with terminal ascites (abdominal swelling caused by accumulation of fluid, most often related to liver disease), who has already been to Gunung Sitoli Hospital. Maybe a cancer causing free fluid to be released by the liver into the abdomen, although a viral hepatitis is also a common cause in countries like this. We have started her on medicine tonight and will see her tomorrow.

We also saw another interesting patient today - a 50yr old woman with severe COPD (chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) for some time. No history of smoking, but maybe a genetic enzyme deficiency. She also has painful GORD (Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease), and Lt knee OA (Osteoarthritis). There would be huge benefits for this lady to her quality of life if she had a working or even secondhand oxygen concentrator. I wonder how much they cost in Indonesia?

Then a pedicab ride to the nearest clean sea for a swim on the gentle waves at sunset time, floating in a warm sea on my back.
